Foot Care > Painful Feet In the MorningQ. My feet hurt when I first step out of bed. What causes this? A. There are many causes of heel, ankle, and arch the symptom
you described is the most common it is called - plantar fascitis –
an inflammation of the plantar fascia. The plantar fascia is a band of
ligaments that run from the heel to the ball of the foot and supports
the arch of the foot. While we sleep our feet relax but the arches and
heel cords tighten up. Consequently your first steps may cause a sudden
strain to that band of tissues. Although the pain may subside you walk,
plantar fascitis can be serious and should treated by a podiatrist. Treatment
of heel?pain varies depending on the type, cause, and severity of the
condition. Stretching your heel cords, oral or injectable anti?inflammatory
medications, arch supports or new shoes may all help this condition. Contact
my office and let me and my office staff treat your feet.
