Foot Care > FungusQ. I have fungus on my toenail. What can I do? A. Onychomycosis is the most common reason patients seek
the care of a podiatrist. Treatment options include mechanical or chemical
debridement, topical or oral antifungal merits and any combination of
these therapies. Partial or complete toenail removal followed by topical
phenol is another alternative. In severe cases fungal nails may cause
significant pain and discomfort and lead to disfigurement and loss of
mobility. There are oral antifungals and newer topical antifungals now
on the market. Contact your podiatrist for what
is right for you.
